RAERESA was officially launched on 16 March 2009 and came officially into existence with the signing of its Constitution by seven national energy regulators from COMESA Member States, namely:

  1. Egypt
  2. Ethiopia
  3.  Kenya
  4. Madagascar
  5. Malawi
  6. Rwanda and
  7. Sudan

Currently, as at April 2022, RAERESA has 14 Full Members and 5 Associate Members.

Associate Members of RAERESA are those COMESA Member States which have not yet established an energy regulator. Those include the following:
